Bolt Threads Microsilk
Description
At Bolt Threads, I wore many hats—but all in service of turning biomaterials science into tangible products. As Director of Special Projects, I led a team of scientists and technicians focused on developing and refining the fiber-spinning process for Microsilk, our bioengineered spider silk.
I also served as de-facto product manager for the debut release: a limited-edition knit tie made entirely from this groundbreaking material. I oversaw silk production, collaborating with our digital knitting partner and packaging design to bring the story of the material to life in a refined, consumer-ready form.
Later, I contributed to the development of two landmark pieces: the MOMA dress and the Adidas Tennis Dress with Stella McCartney—both designed to demonstrate the future potential of sustainable, lab-grown fibers.
