Best Made Co X Bolt Threads

At Bolt Threads, I founded Bolt Projects—a nimble R&D studio focused on turning breakthrough biomaterials into meaningful products. One of our most rewarding collaborations was with Best Made Company, where we launched limited-edition items showcasing Bolt’s materials outside the lab for the first time.

A standout was a reimagined Cap of Courage, knit from a custom blend of Rambouillet wool and our bioengineered Microsilk. I was closely involved—from processing the silk and developing the yarn blend to testing and fine-tuning the final product. The result: a classic form elevated through innovative materials and purposeful design.

We also partnered with Chris Reeve Knives to produce a fixed-blade knife featuring a handle made from a composite I developed using Microsilk and bioresin—an elegant fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern science.

Another highlight was the Brass Capsule Stitcher—a sculptural take on the old-school sewing kit, precision-machined from solid brass and stocked with high-quality notions. It sold out in under 24 hours and remains one of my favorite expressions of elevating the process of repair.
